HISTORY
Historic, but ahead of its time
The success story of the Hipodroomi area dates back to the 18th century, but together we are now writing new chapters for the future. The Quarter is brand new, but still relishes the old and historic aspects.
With the appearance of the first summer estates, this beach side area became a valued entertainment spot. In 1923, the legendary Hipodroom was opened. Cheering on the races was one of the few fun activities available to people at the time.
The former trotting track and gate pavilion, inspired by the shape of the old gatehouse, will remain as important spatial elements. Holding an honorary spot on the main square are the landmark clock and old stable building.
Small architectural forms and prominent lighting solutions on the promenade convey the beauty of the bygone era. Our wish is for all things to keep up with the times, instead of becoming outdated.
